We found the entrance to the cave sometime in the third month of our expedition, I don’t exactly remember when. As soon as we entered, the light from our lanterns dissipated into the vastness, and we fumbled through as blindly as if we’d never had them at all. After spending two days wandering through its ancient tunnels and mapping the impossible cartography of its rooms, there we found the lake. Vast, silent, thick with energy. Light couldn’t penetrate its glassy stillness, but we felt it’s presence rippling through us like a tsunami.
